Summary: A prompt, 'deep,' from Kumoricon Bedtime Stories; Ed takes a walk in the rain.

It was raining. Ed hated the rain. It was cold and every time he walked in it, he felt like he was going to rust. He shrugged his coat further up on his shoulders and shook his head to shift his hood; this rain was like a bucket had been poured on him, and it was always this way in Resembool.

But at the same time he hated the rain, he loved the puddles, and sloshed through them so his flesh toes felt drowned in their sock. Puddle after puddle, in the potholes of the road that trailed along the brick wall he used to walk as a child, he stomped, water crashing over his boots and staining the ankles of his pants with specks of mud.

He shoved his hands into his pockets, jumping over a small puddle to break his rhythm, and threw his leg out over a second puddle off to the side of the road, close to the Rockbells' home.

SPLASH!

Edward disappeared.

At once, he reappeared, spluttering and brushing mud-wet bangs out of his face. He growled, the feral noise shifting pitch into a low howl as he finally just sprinted back through the driving raindrops and crashed up the stairs to throw open the door.

".... Brother?" Al asked, blinking, and Winry stared at his wet, mud-covered form.

"I HATE PUDDLES!"

Mustang, Roy
Flame Alchemist

Relationships:

Roy Mustang, for most of the series of Fullmetal Alchemist, is a Colonel of the Amestris Military, superior officer to Havoc, Hawkeye, Falman, Breda, Fuery and Edward (even Alphonse, by proxy). In fact, he was the one to sponsor Edward Elric to allow him to take the State Alchemist exam at the age of eleven. He was best friends with Maes Hughes and his wife, Gracia, and their daughter, Elycia were like family to him. Major Armstrong, too, joined forces with Roy to help him achieve his goals.

Background/Personality:

Colonel Roy Mustang was a manipulative and secretive bastard to those who didn't know him, and even to those who did. But his agenda was centered around that, to help himself rise through the ranks with his trusted subordinates under his command, to better the country of Amestris and the people.

His goals stem from what was known as the Ishbal Massacre, where alchemists were given small pieces of incomplete Philosopher's stone to use against the people of Ishbal. In doing so, the effect of Equivalent Exchange would be negated, allowing them to use far greater power for the same cost. The part about that war he hates the most, and that still haunts him, was Basque Gran's order for him to shoot two doctors who were taking it upon themselves to help both sides.

He shot them, and as he was still holding the gun, he tried to kill himself, but another alchemist by the name of Tim Marcoh stopped him before deserting. Further into the war, Roy started experimenting alone to try and perfect a human transmutation, but again was stopped, this time by Maes Hughes. From there, he was convinced that he could do something better for the country and stop the senseless wars, and so devoted himself to his mission to become Fuhrer.

As an officer (Lieutenant Colonel and Colonel, after the war in Ishbal,) he was a womanizer, easily wooing any female that passed him by, including those who'd already promised to go out with other men (mainly Havoc, poor guy.) Though he did seem to act like he enjoyed the company of the women he dated, he always seemed quite bored with them.

Not only that, but he procrastinated, putting off his work until the last minute and taking up his time with inane tasks like washing windows or trying to feed Lieutenant Hawkeye's dog, Black Hayate. Still, when motivated, he worked to the best of his ability, putting himself in the right place at the right time and... somewhat underhandedly grabbing his way through the ranks.

Speaking of grabbing, Roy's signature gloves, made of pyrotex (a fabric that allows sparks to be created through friction) and emblazoned with his own circle, allowed him to control the concentration of gasses in the air, and therefore handle fire with what looked like a graceful ease. His ability to fight at a distance was astounding, and not only that, but he was quite the tactician, using both his enemy's strengths and weaknesses against them. Because of his control over fire and his gloves, he was given the title of Flame Alchemist by Fuhrer Bradley. But, of course, even the brightest of fire is useless in the rain.

He was devastated when Maes was killed in action, and wondered why his friend kept so much of the information he'd discovered about not only Fuhrer Bradley, but his secretary, one Juliet Douglas, secret. It turned out that both of them were homunculi, and after everything was revealed and Edward left to confront the mastermind behind said homunculi, Roy deemed to take part in his own battle with them. Leaving Havoc in his place impersonating newly-promoted Brigadier General Roy Mustang, he went with Hawkeye to the Fuhrer's mansion, not only to save the country from the new war that had broken out in the search for the Philosopher's stone, but to exact revenge.

After Maes' death, and subsequently, his battle with the homunculus, Pride, the loss of his eye, and the disappearance of Edward, however, all that seems to have changed. Roy accepted a demotion, placing him in a surveillance post in the far north of Amestris, near the Drachman border. His station is desolate, and it seems his demeanor has fallen to that level as well.

Roy doesn't practice alchemy anymore, the memories of the people he's killed and those he's failed haunting him even from his blinded left eye. Havoc and Breda occasionally visit, perhaps to try and cheer him up, but when they leave, Roy's back out in the cold, half-hidden by snow and hood of his thick coat hiding his face. His once-subordinates hope Hawkeye never sees him like he is, and even if she was able to go to him, they think she's not quite the one he's waiting for.

Theme Set - Gamma
Note: This will be updated as I get ideas.

#01 - Snow

Those around him huddled away from the cold and returned to their warm houses; the homunculus stood, hand outstretched, and watched as the flakes of white collected in his hand, unmelted.

#02 - Child

Envy yelled at Pride because he could never really understand, but the retreating back of the angered elder looked more like a child than the younger's cool countenance, reflected in dull, gold eyes.

#03 - Brick

#04 - Judgment

He stood before the gate and stared, braided hair slipping loose from its tie slowly, before his eyes dulled and its million tiny hands painted the marks across his flesh in the dark; an ouroboros, and a name- Pride.

#05 - Powder

#06 - Grim

#07 - Trap

#08 - Star

#09 - Possession

His wounds were still healing from the 'playing' they'd done when Envy grasped a handful of his hair at the scalp, pulling him upward and uttering "whose are you?" and all he could say was "yours."

#10 - Bandage

#11 - Pearl

#12 - Glass

#13 - Classified

The military didn't like him- kept him under lock, key and chain, and only the strange man they called 'Fuhrer' and a single alchemist were allowed to see him.

#14 - Buttons

#15 - Closet

#16 - Ash

He'd met the Flame Alchemist only once, but it was enough to make him decide he would no more, as the ash of his flesh re-formed.

#17 - Definition

He wondered, sometimes, why a being made up of so many souls did not have one of its own.

#18 - Staircase

#19 - Nail

#20 - Prey

#21 - Backwards

#22 - Trouble

#23 - Little

#24 - Collar

#25 - Circle

He remembered a bright shock of blue, from somewhere back before he'd known his name, and another that seemed like him- Edward Elric, putting his hands to the array.

#26 - Hands

#27 - Freedom

#28 - Last

#29 - Scab

Child as ever he seemed, there were no times when his injuries- human-inflicted or otherwise- presented him with a scab that could be picked at and made to bleed.

#30 - Crown

#31 - Time

#32 - Rice

#33 - Worn

#34 - Paint

A child once showed him how to use his fingers in the swirls of red and blue to make pictures, because she hadn't been afraid.

#35 - Ache

#36 - Cherry

The blood of that man, before it darkened to a sickly brown, was bright and red, like the lines that curved over his body, or a single, shiny cherry.

#37 - Library

Something in him made his expressionless eyes widen at the sight of so many books all in one place; he ran his fingers over the spines, and that something told him, 'home.'

#38 - Win

#39 - Loss

#40 - Fold

#41 - Music

The others- Envy, Greed- called the anguished voices of humans music, but Pride, instead, liked the soft cadence of a piano, etched in the air by slender, graceful fingers.

#42 - Bell

He was quiet, like Sloth- so quiet that Father had deemed a small collar for him; it jingled a soft, brazen sound with each footstep.

#43 - Sleep

Watching the lights of houses and streets slowly flicker out, Pride wondered what it was like to fall into those things called dreams.

#44 - Contact

Duplicate eyes stared back at him, bright gold against bronzed, and there was only a single, slight touch of fingers before the homunculus was the one to retreat, leaving Edward Elric to stare and feel his knees shake.

#45 - Electricity

It was blue, and prevaded his senses, when Father worked his alchemy, the air smelling of ozone and crackling with static that made blonde hair stand on end.

#46 - Milk

He'd been presented with milk only once- Envy grinned in that strange way and set a glass before him- but his fingers simply got wet when he tried to touch it, and the glass tipped, bleeding white onto the stone floor.

#47 - Wild

Pride seldom got angry, but when he did, even those who could easily stand against him suddenly had fear cross their faces.

#48 - Expectation

"C'mon, ya little shrimp, why can't you live up to your name just once?" Envy growled, and Pride blinked back at him, unsure.

#49 - Mechanism

Father hadn't called them things, hadn't called them monsters or homunculi or even human- he called them machines, and Pride wondered why he remembered the weight of metal, too.

#50 - Finale

He could feel his body rejecting itself, the red stones coughed up in messy clumps, and hear Envy's laughter as the blonde homunculus found the grip of mortality.
